Conceptualism

rirkrit tiravanija made simple yet deep art on USA currency. He said “it is not what you see that is important but what takes place between people” I really liked all of his art but mostly the art that he did on the currency. It didn’t matter what he put it on or how the quality looked, he just focused on the message and I really appreciated the overall piece. He didn’t use any colors other than the black stamps, but the overall message makes up for the lack of color.

I think that this artwork could represent three things. One could be he is trying to tell us that if we live in fear then we won’t be able to do anything because we are so consumed in fear. Another way is that Fear is always shown in a form of a monster and monsters always eat the weak and the helpless, so the fear is therefore eating our souls. The last was that this artwork could be represented is that the way he chose to put it on money shows that money creates power, and with too much power it creates fear in people. With too much fear in people the fear creates bad people.

I created this artwork, similar to Rirkirts Fear eats the souls. I used paint pen, vinyl stickers, and acrylic leather paint( its all I had). I wanted to connect the message I wrote on the dollar with the actual dollar. I wrote “Love files out the window when poverty sets in”. To me that means that once someone gets becomes broke they always seem to lose everything that they have. Some people lose their families who don’t want to take care of them. Some get sent out to the streets with nothing but the clothes on their backs. The way that the poor is treated is very sickening. There isn’t enough love in the world to treat the homeless and the poor with the same respect as we treat the rich. The overall message and artwork is trying to show you a deeper message than the actual quality of the artwork.
