For my Non-Objective Object I wanted to create a structure that would look as if it defies gravity. When I was making my structure I miscalculated how heavy and light each form was. I had to rethink my original design and try and make it work. When I was trying to incorporate all of the original forms I ran into an issue with the structure weighing too much in one side so it would fall over and break apart. I then decided that it would be the best to just get rid of the laminated cylinder and laminated cube. I did this so the structure was more sturdy and less likely to fall over. Another issue I had while making this I wanted to keep all of my forms the way they are and not cut or touch any of the pure forms. But I wanted the cones to be holding up the weight and I had to cut the pointed tip off of the hollow cone for the structure to work and stand. When I said that I wanted this structure to defy gravity, it looks as if all the the weight is spread between bother cones, but most of the weight is on the little laminated cone and only a corner of the hollow cone is touching the ground. The structure has a tilt like the leaning tower of Pisa. and a balancing act like Isamu Noguchi’s “Red Cube”. When I researched my artist I noticed that she really thought outside of the box for ways to make her work unique like using feathers. I tried to think like her and construct my structure in a way that was out of my comfort zone and unique to everything I have ever done. When Macaira was critiquing my work she really touched on how she thought my project was also defying gravity and it was nice to see that people understood what I was going for in my project. My Non-Objective Object became a slightly messy version of a balancing act and I was overall happy with the outcome and I wish I could have been able to incorporate all the forms we created without fail.
