KATE MccGWIRE

KATE MccGWIRE is a British Sculptor who uses the medium of feathers. She experiments with the binary notions of beauty and disgust. She calls her work Otherworldly sculptors. She collects molted feathers from very many species of birds. She sculpts her feathers into works that are based on patterns within the feathers. One of her pieces called the SHROUD was a smaller work and it was based on a house in bell jars and was to resemble living creatures. Her artwork was made to make it overlooked and look rather repulsive.

I like this artists work because she uses materials that you wouldn’t expect to be used in the making of sculptures. When I look at her work it looks like she uses old scrapes of metal. But reading about how she creates her artwork gives me a whole new perspective of how people are creating art. I like how the art work looks like they almost melt or they are wrapped around each other creating these smooth masses. The overall artwork is really satisfying to look at even though I am terrified of feathers.
